The participation of Argentina
beef in this region is negligible. (See attached table
beef exports to the Middle East and North Africa). In
1998 only 3 380 tonnes were exported eq. Bone-res worth
U $ S 4.5 million.
63% of exports in volume corresponds to frozen boneless
cuts mainly to Iran, the main destination of exports to
this region. Iran is a market that had a very positive
development over the past two years, after the signing
of agreement for the importation of fresh meat from
Argentina.
The second most important crop is followed by Corned
Beef and offal chilled boneless cuts.
The European Union was almost its sole supplier, after
the onset of the disease of BSE, these countries
decreased meat purchase of Community origin, increasing
its purchases from other countries. Argentina should
build confidence in European beef and promote BSE-free
meat. |
